Rumours of a student, arrested for grabbing free meals at various KFC South Africa outlets for a year on pretext of quality testing food, spread like wildfire.
South African media reported the alleged 'chicken conman' had been going to KFC shops around Durban, claiming to be from headquarters to test food standards.
Surprisingly, the story has been rubbished by KFC South Africa on Twitter. KFC wrote on its official Twitter account in South Africa: 'It would be legendary if only it were true. Fake is as far as it gets with this story. We'd give him all of the props if it were true but unfortunately it isn't, cause this is fake news'.
But according to reports in Daily Mail, the 'chicken conman' fooled staff with his smart dressing and ID card which had the words 'head office'. It is said he strolled around the kitchen with a clipboard, taking notes and quality-testing meals, before bagging a free dinner, Daily Active Kenya reported.
But even after KFC South Africa clarified on social media that the conman was only fictional, thousands praised him as a 'legend'. One Twitter user, Lee Kirichu, wrote: 'He is a legend and is now very experienced taster. KFC should employ him'. While another called, Gladys, said: 'Seizing the opportunity I call it! His is kinda funny to me.... Whole damn year'!
