The artists will slug it out with Moroccan pop singer Ahmed Soultan for the Best Middle East Act gong in Amsterdam on Sunday, November 10.

Since forming more than a decade ago, Juliana Down have supported the likes of Guns ‘N Roses, Maroon 5 and Muse.

They also became the first ever UAE act to sign with a major record label, after inking a distribution deal with Sony Music Middle East in 2011.

That same year, the four-piece released their debut album Empires to widespread acclaim.

The group consists of Dia Hassan (vocals/guitar), Sari Ramadan (guitars), Andrew Gibson (bass) and James Sinclair (drums).

Hamdan Al Abri, 32, is another longtime fixture on the city’s music scene.

As well as touring internationally, he has performed alongside the likes of Joss Stone, Kanye West and Erykah Badu.

The UAE-born singer released his self-title debut EP in 2011 and has seen his tracks played on American TV shows C.S.I. and Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Al Abri took to Twitter to declare himself “honoured” and “blessed”, and urged his followers to go online to vote.

The nominees for the EMAs were announced on Tuesday by the impeccably moustachioed Ron Burgundy - aka movie star Will Ferrell, who is promoting the upcoming sequel to his hit 2004 comedy Anchorman.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the pack with five nods each, while Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke are all up for four awards.
