Taking centre stage at the festival, which runs from October 26 to 29, will be Yasalam - the free carnival on the Corniche which leads up to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, to be held on Yas Island from November 2 to 4.

Top acts performing at the Yasalam ‘Beats on the Beach’ concert series will be Missy Elliot, Tamir Hosny, Cee Lo Green and Mel C as well as UAE-based bands and DJs.

Meanwhile, the F1 Fanzone will see autograph signings, merchandise stands, racing challenges and simulators running throughout. Also at the Corniche on October 26 will be TropFest Arabia, the world’s largest short film festival.

For younger kids, there will be the Barney Let’s Go! Live On Stage! 90-minute show, featuring the lovable purple dinosaur, which runs twice daily at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from October 26 to 28. Tickets start at Dhs99; see www.boxofficeme.com.

Alternatively, the super-sweet Strawberry Shortcake and friends will take to the stage twice daily in Al Ain (October 28 and 29) with interactive games and competitions as part of her 50-minute show, as will the characters of Hamtaro, a golden hamster with an insatiable curiosity, who will be joined by his ‘Ham-Ham Friends’ for their 50-minute, twice daily spectacle at Marina Mall (October 26 and 27).

For more grown-up tastes, Emirates Palace hotel will host the regional finale of the hit Rest Upon the Wind world tour – a theatrical stage production based on the life and times of poet Khalil Gibran.
