Stall 4 Start for Gio Ponti

DUBAI - Hot favourite Gio Ponti will launch his $10m Dubai World Cup claim from stall No. 4 while the representatives of the home team Mastery and Ali Baba will jump from stalls 12 and 1 respectively.

The draw ceremony was attended by Saeed Al Tayer, chairman of the Dubai Racing Club who welcomed horse owners, trainers, jockeys and connections to the 15th running of the world’s richest race.

The draw for the first five supporting races was held randomly at the Emirates Racing Association offices on Monday as per the rules of the authority.

Front runner No Risk Al Maury was given stall No. 1 to mark his win of the first race on Meydan in the curtain raiser Purebred Arabians Al Maktoum Challenge Gr-1 on January 28.

In the newly introduced Al Qouz Sprint Gr-3 on turf, the first Thoroughbreds race on the card, Judd Street will start from gate 14 as a winner of the first race run on the straight turf track.

Kalahari Gold was drawn first in the Godolphin Mile Gr-2, the Brazilian contender Oroveso will kick from gate one in the UAE Derby Gr-2 and One World will be the first to leave the stalls in the Dubai Golden Shaheen Gr-1 to be held for the first time on the round course.

Meanwhile, the pole position draw for the first Dubai World Cup G1 card at Meydan Racecourse took shape with 15 top horses were declared to race for the $10-million Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup.
