Musir Sprints to Glory

Musir has just put his head in front at the busy end to land the 1400m UAE 2000 Guineas Trial at Meydan Racecourse here on Thursday night.

Ridden by leading French jockey Christophe Soumillon, the three-year-old Australian-bred broke awkwardly from stall-1, but soon came under control and settled in the centre of the track. Musir made his way through as the pack took the final turn and hit the front to the delight of the big crowd. Frankie Dettori came with a late run aboard Godolphin colt Frozen Power but Musir held on very strongly close home. Musir lived up to his Arabic name (determinant) and showed great determination under pressure in the concluding strides.

Richard Hills claimed his second win of the Carnival with a great ride that brought Mutheeb home for local trainer Musabah Al Muhairi.

The five-year-old son of Danzig was always going well before the top English jockey said go to win the Dubal International Billet Trophy by five lengths. Al Arab, ridden by Weldomiro appeared the easiest of winners in the 1600m Dubai International Casthouse Trophy opening race of the night. The Brazilian-bred Redattore colt handled the surface very impressively and went clear by more than four lengths before being eased near post.
