Jarnin Sprints to Victory
Trainer Saifaldin Deep teamed-up with top English jockey Richard Mullen to land the HH The President’s Cup Purebred Arabians aboard Jarnin at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
The seven-year-old son of Akbar raced keenly to lead close home in the colours of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Mullen said: “It’s very nice to win such a prestigious race. Jarnin did nothing wrong since arrival from France two months ago. He’s a touch of class.”
Saifaldin Deep said he didn’t expect him to win. “He came from France in a very bad situation and we have been working hard with him thanks to the strong support of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and we are truly obliged for him,” he said.
However, Deep said Jarnin will go for a long break and his next target will be the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Group-1) on the Dubai World Cup night on the Meydan’s synthetic track.
“We will subject him to intensive training on the ground and I’m confident the former champion will handle the surface very well,” he predicted.
“Shaikh Mansour was very confident of the qualities of the horse and that was why he ordered to send him directly to such a big race. He didn’t take part in any preparatory race,” he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Deep saddled Jinad to win the Emirates Breeders’ Cup third race on the card under Royston Ffrench in great style.
Early in the evening, Ted Durcan partnered the Gillian Duffield-trained Jawass to victory in the Al Bahia Maiden opening race on the card.
MH Al Wadi came from nowhere in the hands of Richard Thomas to put his head first on the line in the Al Wathba Stud Farm For Private Owners Only second race. Omani raider Mutafani came with a late run to pip the mount of K. Latham CES Bon near post in the 1000m Al Ruwais PA Sprint Group-3 fourth race. The final race, the only Thoroughbreds of the evening Al Manhal Conditions was won by Bab Al Bahrain, ridden by L Jurado
