Sharjah — His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), has unveiled plans to establish a centre of excellence for diabetes and endocrinology research; and a centre for nano medicine at the UoS campus.
Dr Shaikh Sultan made the announcement while addressing a graduation ceremony of the sixth batch of the Colleges of Health Sciences and Medicine and the seventh batch of the College of Pharmacy at the University City Hall.
During the ceremony, Dr Shaikh Sultan was awarded the honorary fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Dr Shaikh Sultan said: “The launch of the centre for diabetes and endocrinology research is prompted by the high percentage of diabetes prevalence in the UAE and the region at large. The facility will advance diagnostic and therapeutic research at national and regional levels and open up new and broader prospects for scientific research partnerships that aim to improve public health.”— Wam
