NMC Healthcare is offering free heart checkups to members of the public across the UAE for World Heart Day (September 29).

The week-long initiative commenced on Monday and will last until September 29. Selected NMC Healthcare hospitals and centres across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain will be offering the heart checkups to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) with the aim of screening around 15,000 people for blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood glucose and blood cholesterol.

NMC Healthcare has also launched a cardiology Centre of Excellence, NMC Heartcare. The centre has cardiologists and cardiac surgeons on its staff and provides specialist care using the latest technologies.

NMC Heartcare has a faster ‘Door to Balloon’ time compared to the international standard of 90 minutes and is capable of performing faster diagnosis and rapid cardiac intervention to prevent or even reverse muscle damage in the event of an acute heart attack.

As part of its World Heart Day campaign, NMC Healthcare has also introduced ‘Dedicate a Beat’ which allows users to dedicate a beat on social media.

For each dedication, NMC Healthcare has pledged to offer free heart checkups to people
in need.

In 2012, NMC Healthcare screened over 6,000 people and around 10,000 people in 2013 and aims to beat these numbers this year by aiming to screen over 15,000 people.
