Dubai — A dental health awareness campaign targeting blue collar workers has been launched by the Dubai Municipality’s (DM) Clinic and Medical Services Section, in tune with the Shaikh Hamdan Dental Hygiene initiative, at various government departments, companies and factories.

The initiative under the guidance of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, aims at educating workers about maintaining dental health and make them aware of key diseases that affect gum and teeth.  The campaign, which will run till the end of the year, included workshops related to dental hygiene as well as recreational activities.

Zubaidah Mohammed, head of the Clinic and Medical Services Section, said: “We made an action plan to follow the initiative and have finished two sessions, which were conducted on May 31 and June 1. We covered all workers in Al Quoz and Al Muhaisnah labour accommodations.”

The workers were also handed out gifts and other items required for maintaining the general health.

“On June 9, 11 and 13, we will be taking the municipality’s medical team to work sites so that we could cover the entire municipality workers estimated at 6,000, before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.”

Zubaidah added that they will embark on a second phase in Ramadan when about 50,000 workers will be covered.

In September, we will be including all government institutions and workers of the Dubai governments, she concluded.
