Man wanted by Interpol held in Dubai

DUBAI — An Iranian national wanted by Interpol and the Kuwaiti government has been arrested by the Anti-Drugs Unit of Dubai Police while he was walking along the Dubai Creek last week.

He had been under surveillance for a long time.

The 40-year-old Iranian fugitive, Abdul Zahra Abadi, had been sentenced to death seven years ago by a Kuwaiti court on charges of drug trafficking

He, however, managed to escape from the Kuwaiti prison two years ago and fled to Iran where he changed his name from Abdul Zahra Salman Abadi to Abdul Ridha Abdul Ameer Abadi, a police source said.

At the time of arrest, he was found carrying a passport in the name of Abdul Ridha Abdul Ameer Abadi.

A CID official disclosed that the sleuths had been monitoring the movement of the drug trafficker and his associates for quite some time.He added that Dubai Police is coordinating with the Kuwaiti government to hand him over after completion of the legal procedures.
