The ‘Pledge to Good Health’ campaign, which will run for six months, was inaugurated by Omani national Nabil Al Busaidi, who is the first Arab to have walked to the North Pole.

“Good health takes a man a long way. My adventure, achievement and today a moment of pride for the Arab world begins in a regimented health routine,” Al Busaidi said.

“I have always vouched for pushing the limits and a fit and healthy body has been my constant companion in such endeavours.” During the campaign, launched by healthcare brand VLCC, visitors to the Arabian Centre will be able to discuss obesity-related concerns with weight management experts, and participate in a daily walk at the mall.

A health bazaar area will also be created, where the mall’s tenants will showcase their exercise gear and equipments. The tenants of the food court will offer their green health menu, which includes low-fat and sugar-free nourishment.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Al Busaidi said that obesity has become a very serious problem in the region. “The lifestyle in the Middle East is conducive to being lazy. People here prefer to drive than walk, and take the escalator than the stairs.”
