Dr Ibrahim El Ziq, Gulf Area Representative, Unicef, said: “We would like to especially acknowledge Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the RCA — one of Unicef’s long-standing humanitarian partners. We appreciate and acknowledge the value of their ongoing and immediate response to numerous humanitarian relief campaigns worldwide. For Syria in particular, their tireless campaigning and support has no doubt improved conditions for millions of children and their families who are suffering as a result of this terrible conflict.”

In addition, in response to the declared polio outbreak last month in the Middle East region, the RCA made a significant financial contribution to Unicef, enabling procurement of 1.6 million doses of the Oral Polio Vaccine to immunise children under the age of 5 in Syria.

Dr El Ziq added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank both the government of the UAE and the RCA for their continuous support to children worldwide.”
