The United Arab Emirates condemned the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, which killed more than 750 civilians, wounded 4,000 people, mostly women and children, left many homeless and damaged properties.

“The continuous of Israeli attacks on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the policy of revenge and oppression practiced by Israel against the Palestinian people represent a flagrant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, and international laws and norms,” said Saeed Rashid Al Habsi, acting charge d’ affaires of the UAE Permanent Mission at the UN and other International Organisations, in a statement before the Human Rights Council’s Special Session on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Al Habsi affirmed that these violations provide a clear testimony to Israel’s refusal of the peace process.

He condemned continuous air bombardments of civilians and properties as a “collective punishment’ that breaches the international law. He said that targeting medical teams and aid workers is a crime mounted to international crimes.

The UAE, he said, demanded the international community and the UN Human Rights Council to shoulder their full responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and demand the occupying power to immediately cease its offensive and hold it’s accountable for all human casualties the Palestinian people suffered due to this inhumane aggression.

The UAE also called for supporting the Egyptian initiative for ceasefire and urged regional and international parties to accept it and to create a permanent atmosphere for a sustained truce.

The UAE also called the government and international organisations and non-governmental organisations to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance and services to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

In this context, he said, the UAE government in coordination with UNRWA is running an air bridge to relieve displaced families in Gaza. Additionally, the Emirates Red Crescent has signed a cooperation agreement with UNRWA to build and rebuild Gaza in the tune of US$ 41 million. The UAE has also set up a field hospital to provide medical care to the wounded in Gaza.

The UAE demanded the UN Human Rights Council and the international community to provide immediate protection for the Palestinian people including East Jerusalem in consistence with the UN Charter, international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The UAE. also demanded the dispatch of an independent, international commission of inquiry for the Occupied Palestinian Territory to investigate all violations committed by Israel of the international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
