Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai said that “we want a single interface for all Dubai Government applications as all work under one name and that services should be delivered through one gate. He added that each Dubai department represents all Dubai and our smart applications have to reflect one interface for the Emirate.”
Shaikh Hamdan’s words came at the first meeting of the Supreme Committee for Dubai’s transition into a smart city yesterday. “We are not as much concerned with the number of government applications as the quality, easiness of our government procedures; our goal is to make life simple and easy through effective applications rather than the numerousness of these applications.” he added.
During the meeting, Shaikh Hamdan also said that he will announce the name of the smartest department in Dubai at the end of the year.
He stressed the need to integrate work among all Dubai Government’s departments and institutions to implement the strategic plan of the Smart Dubai Initiative in line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to transform Dubai into the Smartest City in the world over the coming three years.
Last week witnessed the launch of a strategy to transform Dubai into a “Smart City”. The strategy features six key pillars and 100 initiatives on transport, communications, infrastructure, electricity, economic services, urban planning. Under the strategy, 1000 government services will go smart in the next three years.
The mechanism of implementing the Dubai Smart City strategy and reviewing work team plans in cooperation with various government entities and bodies have also been discussed during the meeting.
Shaikh Hamdan said “Transforming Dubai into a smart city needs teamwork and cooperation between the public and private sectors to provide a rich life experience in Dubai.” “We are keen to complete the implementation of the Strategic Plan with all its various programmes and initiatives in a period not exceeding 3 years, as per the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, “ Shaikh Hamdan added.
He ordered the formation of an executive committee for the initiative to be chaired by Ahmed bin Bayat, and the membership of Secretary General of Dubai Executive Council, Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shaibani, Director General of Dubai Smart Government Department; Ahmed bin Humaidan, Assistant Director-General of the Executive Office of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Aisha bin Bishr, in addition to representatives from some government institutions such as the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai police, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai Municipality and Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
