His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a decree to amend the civil service law in Sharjah.

Women employees would be granted 90 days’ maternity leave with full salary. It may be granted two weeks before the expected date of delivery based on a medical report from a certified specialist doctor.

They will be allowed time for breastfeeding for one year after maternity leave at the beginning or end of working hours.

Maternity leave and annual leave or leave without pay up to 120 days may be combined from the start of maternity leave.

A three-day paid paternity leave shall be given to an employee within a month of the date of childbirth.

The decree will be effective from the date of its issuance, and the authorities concerned must implement its provisions.
