Dubai: National innovation was the main topic at the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation to support the government’s efforts to shift towards innovation-based services over the next year.

The dialogue, at the headquarters of the centre in Dubai, was attended by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a number of ministers and deputy ministers and about 200 dignitaries and government leaders.

The session was part of the innovation dialogue organised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation to promote a culture of innovation and enable the public sector to achieve a radical shift in its functioning.

The session included a presentation by global expert Dr. Geoff Mulgan, chief executive of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta), who explained the importance of innovation in future governments, citing a number of leading international experiences.

Dr. Mulgan commended the steps taken by the UAE to prepare future generations of young talents in the field of innovation by providing them the right tools and data as well as the necessary facilities.

Huda Al Hashemi, Executive Director at Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, said the dialogue embodies the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on the National Innovation Strategy. Al Hashemi added that the centre has been organising a series of training sessions, workshops and innovation labs to achieve the goals of the National Innovation Strategy and thereby support the public sector in transforming its service delivery mechanism.

Al Hashemi said the dialogue focuses on making innovation the driving force in government development and action, especially in the provision of services. The rapid technological developments highlight the importance of these meetings in developing a common national action on innovation, Al Hashemi added.
