DUBAI — John Mills and Adrienne Fullerton were crowned men’s and ladies champions respectively at Arabian Ranches Golf Club.
Mills, the three times defending Champion, also went on to win the seniors championship thus becoming the first Golfer at ARGC to win both titles in the same year, a press release said. On a perfect scoring day over the desert styled links course a field of 139 players competed in the 2nd and final round of the Club’s 6th Annual Club Championships.
In the Men’s Division, one of the closest head to head finishes in the 6 years of the Championship was contested. Andy Burrow who started the final round 3 shots clear of Defending Champion - John Mills was caught and overtaken after the opening nine. Mills took a commanding three shot lead with four holes to play when Burrow fought back with a magnificent eagle two on the 15th hole closing the gap to one shot. The pivotal moment in the match came on the penultimate hole where Burrow scored a triple bogey to give Mills a comfortable four shot lead going to the last hole. Mills sealed the victory with two steady rounds of 73+73 for a total of 146 to win the Championship for the fourth consecutive year.
In the Ladies Division, Adrienne Fullerton managed to just pip defending Champion Adele McKelvey for the title, the latter had a five shot lead going to the 35th hole where she scored a quadruple bogey 7 shrinking her lead to 1 shot going down the last hole. Fullerton was able to close out her first Championship with both players taking a 5 on the last hole.
Khaled Attieh won the Junior Championship in a playoff against Austin Hurlbut, both players tied in the Clubhouse on 77. The playoff was a sudden death contest over the 18th hole, Attieh took the title on the first playoff hole when he made a par against the bogey by Hurlbut.
Francois Wolfaardt – conducted the Prize Presentation and thanked everyone associated with the weekend and all for participating, all winners were presented with their trophies.
