Havret withdrew after two rounds of the Wales Open earlier this month following the death of his father.

“It was a pretty tough day,” Havret, a three-times winner on the European Tour, said after some poor putting marred his opening round at Congressional Country Club.

“I putted quite badly all day long. I didn’t hole any and I had three three-putts, I think.”

Havret, 34, whose father and mother were in the gallery last year at Pebble Beach, had his best result in a major at the 2010 US Open where he finished one shot behind winner Graeme McDowell.

He said he felt it was important to coame play this US Open in memory of his father, who died of vascular disease.

“Obviously, it’s the US Open where I did that well last year,” Havret told reporters. “My father was always proud.

“It means a lot for me to be here and I want to do well. So obviously today wasn’t the greatest day.”
