Shoppers poured in to cash in on mega deals on the first day of Gitex Shopper with smartphones, especially the new iPhones and Note8, hogging the limelight.
Nadeem Khanzadah, head of Omni Channel Retail, Jumbo Group, said Samsung's Note8 and Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were much in demand on the first day of the region's largest exhibition.
"iPhone 8 sales are lower as compared to last year's iPhone 7 because people last year had no option, but to buy iPhone 7. Probably, people are now waiting for Apple's premium iPhone X, which will be available in November," Khanzadah told Khaleej Times.
"Smartphone is always a key driver category; this year the coincidence is that there are a number of new models which people had been waiting for," he added.

Nilesh Khalkho, CEO of Sharaf DG, said the Note8 and iPhone 8 - especially 8 Plus - were selling good along with the iPhone 7 32GB. "The Note8 is also doing well as our pre-bookings were more than double of last year," he added.
According to Khanzadah and Khalkho, gaming laptops are also in the spotlight.
