It’s worth mentioning that former international referee Ali Bujsaim represented the UAE in three World Cup finals in 94, 98 and 2002. UAE assistant referee Eissa Darweesh took part in the World Cup 2006.

Al Marzouqi has also a proven track record at the Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers. The brilliant assistant referee started his career on 1/6/1997 and was promoted as international referee on 1/1/2005. He took part in the AFC Asian Cup 2007, Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, Gulf Cup Muscat in 2009 and Pan Arab Club Championship in 2006.

The head of the referees committee at the UAEFA Nasser Al Yamahi praised the FIFA move and thanked Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Honourary President of the FA for his strong support.

Al Yamahi said he was pleased and delighted for the selection and hoped there would be more UAE referees in the 2014 edition of the World Cup.

Al Marzouqi has recently won the golden flag from the Lebanese Magazine Al Hadath.
