Elsewhere in Al Dhafrah, 10-man Al Dhafrah held Al Jazira to a 1-1 draw at the Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium. The draw spelt Luis Milla’s end as Al Jazira coach.

Al Ain’s best opportunity came on 26 minutes when Bastos sprinted down the left flank and sent in a low cross. But Asamoah Gyan failed to make contact from close range.

Al Ain came close again on 36 minutes but midfielder Matei Mirel Radoi shot it straight to the goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani.

Al Ain pressed hard and took the lead two minutes after the break. Mohammed Al Shehhi deflected Bastos’ pile driver with a header. But Bastos pounced on the rebound and volleyed it past Adel Al Hosani.

But Al Wahda found the equaliser from a set piece after substitute Salem Saleh had won a freekick. Estrada’s curling freekick too a deflection off Omar Abdulrahman and Mohanad Salem before rolling into the goal, on 67 minutes.

Al Ain could have taken the lead three minutes later but Gyan’s dipping header into the pitch, bounced over the cross bar.
