Al Jazira rally to trounce Dubai

Al Jazira came from behind to reverse their early 0-1 deficit into a clear 4-1 victory at the Al Aweer Stadium here on Thursday night.

Ismail Ahmed put Dubai ahead in the ninth minute before Yasser Matter equalised for the Abu Dhabi side in the 29th minute. Khaleed Sabeel made it 2-1 in the 33rd minute, Delgado added the third goal in the 54th minute and Bari added the fourth goal in the 74th minute.

The big victory took Abu Dhabi giants Al Jazira to 29 points, five points clear of second-placed Baniyas, while Dubai’s loss ensured they slipped into the relegation zone alongside Ittihad Kalba, who lost 2-0 at Al Nasr.

Ismail Bangoura scored twice in the final 20 minutes as hosts Al Nasr trounced Kalba 2-0.

In another match, Al Ain salvaged a tough home draw against ten-man Al Shabab at the Tahnoon bin Mohammed Stadium in Al Ain City on Thursday night.

Dawood Ali drew first blood for the Dubai side in the 36th minute and Jose Sand equalised for the home team in the 63rd minute.

In Sharjah, Al Wasl held hosts Sharjah to a 1-1 draw at the Sharjah Stadium on Thursday night. Humaid Ahmed put the home team ahead in the 17th minute and Tareq Hassan levelled the result six minutes later.
