Title contenders Al Ahli Club will be eyeing an outright win against Al Nasr Club, while Hatta Club will cross swords with Ajman in the semi-finals of the inaugural edition of the UAE Beach Soccer League.

On paper, Al Ahli is perhaps the strongest team among the four sides that have made it through to this week’s semi-finals.

They have the prolific goal-scorer from Portugal Joao Victor Saraiva (called Madjer), countryman Rui Coimbra, Switzerland skipper Stephan Maier and Iran’s Hussain Ahmed.

Though relying solely on local talent, Al Nasr have looked menacing especially in their last group match against Al Ahli that saw them end in second in the Dubai zone following two goals within as many minutes from Madjer and Maier to hand the Qusais club a 3-1 win.

On the other hand, Hatta Club have taken things in the stride by riding on the experience of former UAE striker Bakhit Saad.

But they are sure to have a tough opponent in Ajman Club, who have managed to assemble a fairly modest outfit to try and match the best.

In the quarter-final, Hatta Club defeated Dibba Al Hosn 7-3, while Ajman Club drubbed Al Oroubah 8-5 in the other quarters. In the lower part of the draw, Al Nasr got the better of Ittihad Kalba 5-3, while Al Ahli had smashed their way past Al Hamriya Club 14-4.

It will be an interesting semi-finals with any team making the least number of mistakes standing a chance for one final bow on Friday.

Matches (Venue — Mamzar Beach):

Thursday: (3.30pm) Hatta Club v Ajman Club; (4.45pm) Al Ahli v Al Nasr.

On Friday: (3.30pm) Third place play-off; (4.45pm) Final.
