In the US, the Fourth of July celebrations are marked with a stunning fireworks display, renditions of the anthem Star-Spangled Banner, and of course, indulging in delicious foods that hold a special place in everyone's hearts and stomachs. Here's a look at some common Fourth of July food traditions and where you can enjoy them in Dubai.
Barbecue beckons: One of the most famous traditions of the day is indulging in the all-American barbecue, which brings families and friends together around a grill. This style of cooking is popular since it allows for a lot of food to be cooked at once and is perfect for big gatherings and picnics. Some of the common fixtures at the cookout include tender meat pieces marinated in a blend of hot spices and lip-smacking sauces. Head to Perry and Blackwelder's in Souk Madinat Jumeirah and tuck into their variety of BBQ dishes such as slow-smoked Mesquite Brisket, Smoked Turkey Breast with Cornbread or the signature Empire State Burger.
Snack on hot dogs: A nice, perfectly grilled hot dog topped with mustard and ketchup in one hand and a lemonade to wash it all down on the other is iconic, and a Fourth of July celebration is indeed incomplete without it! Fulfil your cravings by heading to the American restaurant chain Shake Shack, located across town, and order from one of their three tasty options. The New York Style and Cheese Hot Dog are fuss-free appetising meals, while revving up the delicious factor is the Shack-cago Hot Dog that comes with a whole variety of toppings that burst with flavours.
Decadent cakes: One of the popular desserts enjoyed on the day is strawberry shortcake - a layered cake with strawberries, strawberry sauce and whipped cream. Many times, blueberries are added to make the cake 'red, white and blue' - symbolic of the holiday colours. To celebrate the day, Black Tap, located in Jumeirah Al Naseem and Rixos Premium JBR, has rolled out a limited edition freakshake. Available until July 8 and priced at Dh69, it's a combination of vanilla ice cream, red, white and blue sprinkles and whipped cream that's topped with a cake slice.
