“This car is a limousine,” the Australian said during the presentation of the RB6, the successor to the RB5 that earned the team a second-place finish in last season’s constructors championship.
“We’ve only made a few aerodynamic changes, which didn’t give us too many headaches. What proves the intelligence of (Red Bull technical director) Adrian Newey is that lots of people have copied our car (from last season),” Webber added.
The new car has a similar nose to the RB5 and a longer chassis, with a deeper fuel tank to allow for the new rules banning teams from re-fuelling during races.
Webber completed 47 laps of the Jerez test track on Wednesday before his car sprung an oil leak and he was forced to retire for the day.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg set the fastest time of the day with a lap of 1min 20.927sec towards the beginning of the session.
Webber’s German team-mate Sebastian Vettel is due to get his first outing in the RB6 on Friday.
“I’ve been impatiently waiting for this moment all winter and I have to wait a bit longer until the end of the week,” said Vettel, runner-up to Jenson Button in last year’s championship.
“I don’t like waiting but at least I can console myself with the noise of the cars.”
