The question that was asked was what next after the inaugural Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which was held last November? And the ADMM has delivered on that count. The ADMM has lined-up a slew of motorsport activities apart from their unique Yas Track Day events. The Yas Marina Circuit played host to the GP2 Asia Series along with support races – the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East Championship and the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship in the beginning of February. And now, the Yas Marina Circuit, which went down in history as the first day-night race in Formula One, will play host to the Australia V8 Supercar Championship. The Circuit will host the season-opener of the popular Australian series on Friday and Saturday.

Also on the list as supporting acts are the UAE GT Championship, the Gulfsport Radical Cup, the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship as well as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East Championship.

The V8 Supercar Championship Series consists of 15 rounds.

Among other events for the year is the Yas Drag Racing Festival on March 19-20 and the FIA GT1 World Championship on April 16 and 17 followed by the icing on the cake – the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from November 12 to 14.

Coming to the Australia V8 Supercar Championship, purpose-built racing versions of the popular Holden Commodore VE and Ford Falcon FG, driven by many Australians on the roads, are the two cars that carry the hopes of the 29 drivers and their respective teams.

With roaring V8 engines producing 650 horsepower, these rear-wheel drive racing machines are unlike any other type of race car in the world. V8 Supercar racing is Australia’s most popular form of motorsport and one of its best-attended sports overall, one that has spread into New

Zealand with events also held in recent years in Bahrain and even in China.

The drivers who will be looking to make a mark are reigning V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup, Will Davison, James Courtney, Craig Lowndes, Mark Winterbottom and Paul Dumbrell. Whincup has been the V8 Supercar Champion for the past two years in 2008 and 2009.
