A 24-year-old woman, from London, died after escaping her burning car on a road bridge in Kent at 2:30 am, but plummeted 40 feet when she climbed over the barriers while trying to seek help.
The tragic accident took place on Thursday when the woman identified as Azra Kemal, a law graduate, was driving back with a friend following a night out. Kemal's car exploded on the road bridge and she was trying to seek help from motorists when she climbed over the barriers between two carriageways on the flyover.
According to reports, Kemal assumed there was a central reservation between the carriageways when she climbed over but slipped through a 10 feet wide void.
Her devastated mother, Nevres Kemal, said her daughter initially survived the fall and that her friend jumped after her but couldn't find her. Paramedics were called by an off-duty nurse who was passing by, but Kemal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her mother said that her last words to the rescuers were 'Please don't let me die'.
Kemal's mother who is a social worker said, "She was really and truly the air that I breathe. That is all I live for, for her. I am in total shock. I do not know what to say. "
