A man committed suicide at Rome's Barberini metro station on Wednesday, jumping on to the track as a train was entering, reports said.

The incident forced local transport company Atac to close a section of the line linking the stop to the central Termini rail station for several hours.

The 60-year-old man, who worked as a waiter on nearby Via Veneto, was allegedly suffering from depression and committed suicide, Rome daily Il Messaggero reported on its website.

Firemen had to use a crane to recover the man's body, which was trapped between the underground train and the tracks, the daily said, quoting police.
