The 22-year-old daughter of renowned Indian film director, the late Manmohan Desai, is excited about the fate of her debut film, Vivek Sharma's Kal Kisne Dekha, in which she stars opposite producer Vashu Bhagnani's son, Jackky Bhagnani.

In a phone interview with City Times, the confident, well-spoken model discusses the character she plays, her dream role and working with her favourite actor, the charismatic Shah Rukh Khan.

What attracted you to the role you play in Kal Kisne Dekha?

I play the role of Meesha Kapoor. She's a girl with a lot of attitude; she's well-dressed, glamorous and thinks no end of herself. But, through the course of the film, a series of events happen in her life that changes her to a more calm and subtle person. I always wanted to play a character that was of my age. The film is youthful and completely college-based.

Lately, science fiction films such as the catastrophic Love Story 2050, Aa Dekhe Zara and the recent Tasveer 8x10 have failed miserably at the box office. Are you apprehensive about the fate of your debut film?

It's not exactly a futuristic, science fiction film. We've not used a time machine or any other kind of conventional props. Jackky's character has intuitional visions, yes, which does form the plot of the film.

Would you have preferred to work with a more experienced actor for your launch?

I would love to have worked with an experienced actor, but for me it was always the role. It really doesn't matter whether it's with another debutante or a star. I believe in destiny and I think Kal Kisne Dekha was meant for me.

Who is the one actor you would absolutely love to do a film with?

I worked with Shah Rukh in one of my commercials and I'd like to work with him in a film now rather than a two and half minute advertisement. He's a thorough gentleman and made me feel very comfortable. At no point did I feel like he's a really big star or icon. I know it sounds a little greedy but I'd like to work with everyone.

Do you have any dream role in mind?

I want to do varied, performance-oriented roles. I would love to work in a period film.
