The UAE National Orchestra has launched a new musical work paying tribute to the country’s defenders, in a moment when the nation has been reflecting on the courage and dedication of those who safeguard it.
Titled Men, truly men, the piece honours the “protectors of the nation” and celebrates the bravery of those defending the UAE and its people.
The lyrics of the composition were written by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with music composed by Mohammed Al Ahmad. The piece has been arranged in a new orchestral distribution by composer and music arranger Ahmed Al Mouji.

Parts of the lyrics reflect courage during times of hardship. One line calls for strength when challenges arise: “Call upon men in hardship, so the ancient proverb bade.”
Another verse celebrates honour and resilience, describing how “in the furnace of trials we summon the honourable, the brave, truly men.”
The song also references the country’s legacy and unity, with lines praising those who answer the nation’s call: “The sons of Zayed answer the call, theirs is the victory, no matter the cost, rising our flag in skies of glory.”
Elsewhere, the lyrics evoke the intensity of moments of defence, describing a powerful scene in the skies: “As smoke dressed the sky, their strikes raining down, a beating roar from on high. With my own eyes, I saw our wings soaring, impossible to tame.”
The musical release comes at a time of national reflection following recent Iranian attacks on the UAE.
Earlier this week, Sheikh Mohamed addressed citizens and residents during a visit to a hospital where he met people injured in the attacks, assuring the public that the country would fulfil its responsibility to protect its people.
“Pardon us if we did not meet expectations, but we are in a time of war,” he said. “I promise you that we will fulfil our responsibility to defend you, our people, and our families.”
The UAE President also emphasised on the resilience of the country and the unity of its society during difficult moments.
“The UAE is beautiful, the UAE is a pioneer, but I tell you, don’t let all of that fool you,” he said. “Know that the UAE’s skin is thick and its meat is bitter; no one can eat us. And we will always be responsible for our citizens and our second family, residents.”
He also praised citizens and residents for their response, highlighting the solidarity and cooperation shown across the community.
Against this backdrop, the orchestral tribute reflects a broader moment of appreciation for those serving the country.
The UAE National Orchestra, which brings together 70 musicians and 30 vocalists representing 30 nationalities, first performed the piece publicly during the 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations at the Zayed National Museum.
The ensemble was formed after receiving more than 3,200 international applications, highlighting the diversity of the UAE’s cultural and artistic landscape.
Through its orchestral arrangement and lyrics celebrating resilience and honour, the work stands as a tribute to those who defend the nation and protect its people.
