Superman takes over Dubai: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Ski Dubai join the hype

Did you spot Superman flying in to the city this weekend?

Superman made an epic return to the big screen this weekend, with a James Gunn reboot that brought soul back to the story of the Man of Steel. While the narrative landed well across the world – rating 83 per cent on the Tomatometer – in the UAE, we celebrated the start of a new universe as we always do, by going all-out. Promotional events took over hotspots such as Ski Dubai and Dubai Mall’s waterfall, and one theatre in Dubai even held a promotion that allowed fur babies into a cinema hall to see Krypo, the super pup take to the skies (and save the superhero).

Here's a look at all the cool promotions in the city:

Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai

Superman – and David Corenswet – made quite an impression on the city when clips from the movie were displayed on the tallest building in the world. The show began with the words ‘Dubai, look up’ flashing on the giant façade. That was followed by clips from the new movie and a good look at The Man of Steel and his alter ego, Clark Kent. The promotion was by Reel Cinemas. Instagram user brown_beast_uk called it, the ‘best promotion for a movie ever’.

Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates

Batman may get a spotlighted bat in the sky in Gotham city, but superman got a much, much cooler welcome this weekend in Dubai when Vox Cinemas promoted the man on a mission’s story by carving the unmistakable ’S’ onto a block of ice. The Insta story’s caption was: "Superman left his mark at Ski Dubai.

The Dubai Mall

You are bound to notice new and interesting things at the Dubai Mall each time you go there. It’s such a dynamic space that homegrown tour brand Frying Pan Adventures even has a food tour planned around the space. This weekend though there was more of a superhero vibe, especially at the waterfall, where if you just looked up you would find that amid the diver statues was a Superman sculpture. The social media handle of the mall wrote cheekily, "Superman just flew into Dubai Mall."

The Springs Souk

As a fur mum or dad, one of the hardest things to do is leave your pawsome pet at home over the weekend as you explore the city or go for a movie. This week, some pet parents didn’t need to – they got to see the Man of Steel and his cute pup on screen alongside their very own doggos.  PetWorld UAE teamed up with Reel Cinemas by Emaar, The Springs Souk, and Emaar Dubai to offer a real treat on July 9. Thirty tickets were made available for free on a first come, first served basis, and the bright eyed bushy tailed doggos got to go along with their hoomans. Now if that’s not a super treat, we don’t know what is.
