BRINGING SOME GOOD old American grit to next year's Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival will be Stone Temple Pilots.

The hard rock act, now fronted by Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, were one of the most successful bands of the 1990s.

Their grungy debut album Core (1992) went a whopping eight-times platinum in their homeland, with the single Plush picking up a Grammy Award.

The California four-piece followed this up with the chart-topping Purple (1994), which sold upwards of six million copies and contained hits like Big Empty and Interstate Love Song.

The band have released six albums to date. Their most recent effort, 2010's Stone Temple Pilots, saw the band's fractious relationship with singer Scott Weiland finally come to an end.

Weiland, whose long-term drug problems have been well-documented in the press, was finally fired from the group in February this year.

The inevitable wave of lawsuits that followed between the group and the wiry entertainer (who also fronted Velvet Revolver) are still pending, as both parties try to sue each other.

Bennington, a lifelong fan of Stone Temple Pilots, joined a few months later and the new outfit released new EP High Rise last month - although the Linkin Park vocalist insists his priorities will always remain with the band that he co-founded in the late 1990s.

Catch Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington at Festival Park, Dubai Festival City on February 13, where they will share the bill with another soon-to-be-announced act.

Among the other artists confirmed for the fest (which runs from February 13 to 21) so far are Olly Murs, The Wanted, Jamie Cullum and Colbie Caillat.
