An AR Rahman musical, Kaaviya Thalaivan, is now playing at theatres in the UAE. Arguably one of the most awaited movies this year, it is a period musical set to the scintillating melodies of A R Rahman.

The film is a dream project of director Vasantha Balan who has awed audiences with Veyil, Angadi Theru and Aravaan, another musical with lilting music by singer Karthik.

Balan takes on the theatre scene of the 1920s, against the backdrop of the Independence movement.

The film, which stars Siddharth, Prithviraj, Nasser and Vedhika, also tackles the rivalry between the two protagonists, one of whom aspires to be the lead actor of a play.

Written by Jeyamohan, who Vasantha Balan had worked with on Angadi Theru, Kaaviya Thalaivan has been crafted following painstaking research.

From costumes and sets to the music, every aspect of the film has the trappings of a classic in the making.

For Siddharth, this could indeed be a career-defining role, while for Prithviraj fans, here is a film that brings out a different dimension of the actor.
