Netflix Philippines to raise subscription rates from June 1 as digital law takes effect

This adjustment follows the implementation of Republic Act 11900 signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last year

Netflix subscribers in the Philippines will soon see higher monthly bills as the streaming platform adjusts its prices to comply with a new tax regulation.

Starting June 1, the cost of all subscription plans will increase to reflect the recently imposed 12 per cent value-added tax (Vat) on foreign digital service providers.

The streaming platform sent a notification to subscribers, informing them of the updated monthly rates:

  • Mobile: Php169 (Dh11.16) from Php149

  • Basic: Php279 (Dh18.43) from Php249)

  • Standard: Php449 (Dh29.65) from Php399

  • Premium: Php619 (Dh11.16) from Php549

This adjustment follows the implementation of Republic Act 11900 (also referred to in some reports as RA 112023), signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last year.

The legislation mandates Vat collection from foreign companies offering digital services in the Philippines — including streaming platforms, e-marketplaces, and cloud providers — regardless of whether they have a physical office in the country.

Subscribers on the Standard plan can continue adding one extra member for Php169/month, while Premium users can add up to two extra members at the same rate per slot.

These new prices are already being applied to new accounts and will take effect for existing subscribers on June 1.

Netflix isn’t the only platform adjusting its pricing. Digital gaming platform Steam has also announced that it will begin applying the 12 per cent Vat on all game purchases from June 1, which means users can expect higher prices across its gaming selection as well.
