It's now official. Georgekutty, the fictional character who'd leave no stone unturned to protect his wife and two daughters, will return for possibly one last time.

The makers of Drishyam 3 confirmed that the third instalment of director Jeethu Joseph's stirring crime thriller, headlined by superstar Mohanlal, Meena and Asha Sharath, will release on April 2, as the Indian summer gets going.

"Worldwide release | April 2, 2026," the actor wrote on a post on X.

The movie's crew had drummed a steady beat of expectations since last year. In July, Joseph—who had directed the first two instalments as well—said he breathed a sigh of relief after penning the movie's script following a gruelling round-the-clock schedule of juggling screen-writing and filming other projects.

He had also indicated that it was Mohanlal who had prompted him to write Drishyam 3, soon after the success of Drishyam 2 (2021). “Though I was not sure about what to say at that time, I told him that if we ever went for another sequel, I wish for the climax to be crafted in a particular way. I shared my thoughts with him,” he had said.

In January this year, Joseph, while commenting on the movies' cultural impact, had speculated at an April release.

Drishyam is a movie that has influenced lots of people... So, without too many expectations, you may watch the movie in the first week of April in the theatres," he had said at a function in Kochi. "The release date will be officially announced soon."

In an interview to Pinkvilla, Joseph said Drishyam 3 will serve as the conclusion.

Shooting for Drishyam 3 wrapped up in December, 2026, with the crew sharing a location video taken moments after the final shot was filmed.

Drishyam's box office success in 2013 spurred a slew of remakes and what would turn out to be the Drishyam franchise.

The movie turned out to be the highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time. It has since been remade in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.
