When Bollywood actress Neena Gupta wished newly-weds Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna at their wedding reception in Hyderabad recently, that should have been regular news. Social media, however, seems to have had other plans.
The who's who of Indian entertainment industry had descended on the south Indian metropolis to wish the actors, who got married recently at a grand ceremony in Udaipur in northwestern India. As did Gupta, along with her husband Vivek Mehra.
And that was when pictures and videos of the Veere Di Wedding, Badhaai Ho and Metro... In Dino star turned popular on social media. Speculation that the actress was pregnant again spread unchecked, like a forest fire.

For the occasion, Gupta wore an ivory outfit designed by her daughter, the Masaba Masaba star Masaba Gupta—whose father is the yesteryear West Indian cricketing superstar Vivian Richards. The veteran actress styled her outfit with rich accessories, including gold jewellery.
Users were quick to spot an apparent baby bump. Reel seemed to have met real, as Gupta had played a similar role in the 2018 Bollywood comedy-drama Badhaai Ho, which deals with a middle-aged woman turning pregnant by mistake.
'This is all I need'
The Indian National Award-winning actress, however, cleared such speculation. In an interview with the Indian entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama, Gupta joked: "This is all I need, a real-life Badhaai Ho."
And then came the speculation-killer. Gupta was not pregnant.
"There is no Badhai Ho. I am not pregnant. The truth is, the saree material was thick, so it made me look bulky at the reception," the actress was quoted as saying by the website.
She may have come under heavy scrutiny needlessly, but Gupta put a positive spin on the episode.
"But I must say, I love all this speculation about my pregnancy at my age. It shows we are evolving as a nation."
