If you've seen any of India's highest-grossing films of recent times, chances are, one of these stars have featured in it. Indian actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony on Thursday.

The marriage, which took place at the ITC Mementos restaurant in Udaipur, in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan, was a closely guarded affair, attended only by near friends and relatives.

The nuptials started at 10am, according to Indian media reports, with the rituals honouring customs of Mandanna's and Deverakonda's families.

While Deverakonda, the star of the action dramas Kingdom and Arjun Reddy, hails from Telangana, Mandanna's roots are from Kodagu in southern Karnataka. She has starred in blockbusters such as Animal, Varisu, Tamma and Pushpa. The two have acted together in the romantic dramas Dear Comrade (2019) and Geetha Govindam (2018).

The couple followed traditional Telugu customs for the ceremony in the morning; a Kodava ceremony is expected to take place in the evening. The Indian news portal Moneycontrol reported that sweets were later distributed to members of paparazzi waiting outside the venue.

Mandanna shared images of her wedding ceremony on Instagram. "The man who taught me what true love feels like, the man who showed me what being in peace feels like!" she captioned the post.

Sharing a heartfelt note with the photographs, she added, "I’ve become the woman I have always dreamt of being, because you made her who she is today!" Here are some images she shared from the ceremony:

It may have been an all-family affair, but actors Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashika Ranganath and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga were among the wedding guests.

Wishes from Indian Prime Minister

On Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to the couple, extending his wishes.

The prime minister congratulated both the families and said that the marriage "marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of Vijay and Rashmika".

"Neither Vijay, nor Rashmika is new to scripts in their films. But this divinely scripted chapter of their real lives, filled with love and affection, will surely outshine the magic they have created on the silver screen," the letter by the Indian prime minister said. "May the days, months and years to come be filled with shared dreams and their fulfillment."

Privacy safeguards

Indian media cited sources close to the couple saying that no guest was allowed to carry phones into the ceremony. The official photography and videography team has also signed non-disclosure agreements, leaving no room for live updates, leaks, or behind-the-scenes glimpses from the event.

The couple embraced tradition in the lead-up to the big day. Two separate pre-wedding ceremonies have already taken place; one hosted by Rashmika’s maternal relatives at her home, and another organised by Vijay’s family.

Rashmika and Vijay had sent personally-written notes to friends requesting no gifts, asking only for blessings.

A larger reception is scheduled for March 4 in Hyderabad, where friends and members of the film fraternity are expected to attend.
