Faced with a potential third trial this March, the film producer is reportedly considering a guilty plea to resolve years of legal gridlock in Manhattan
In a significant turn of events in a Manhattan courtroom this Thursday, legal representatives for Harvey Weinstein revealed that the former film producer is contemplating a guilty plea.
The potential deal involves a third-degree rape charge, a move intended to bypass a third exhaustive trial regarding allegations from 2013.

The move aims to resolve charges involving Jessica Mann and avoid a third trial, currently scheduled for March 3.
The legal backdrop
The specific charge stems from accusations made by Mann, who alleged that Weinstein assaulted her at a New York hotel. While Weinstein has consistently maintained that all sexual encounters were consensual, his defense team is exploring this legal manoeuvre following a series of complex court battles.
The film producer was originally convicted of the charge in 2020, but the decision was later overturned in 2024.
In 2025, a retrial ended in a hung jury regarding Mann’s allegations. As of now, Weinstein remains convicted of a first-degree criminal sexual act involving Miriam Haley.
Judge Curtis Farber recently rejected a defense bid to scrap the Haley conviction, dismissing claims that jurors were bullied into a guilty verdict.
Farber maintained the trial was fair and balanced.
Weinstein's representatives describe the producer, who has spent six years at Rikers Island, as medically fragile and caught in a state of 'legal limbo'.
Whether he accepts the plea or faces a third jury in March remains the central focus of the proceedings.
