The evening event, held at the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club, attracted aspiring fashion designers from all over the world.

The Swarovski Abaya Design Awards was launched to provide fashionistas an opportunity to reveal their creativity in the fashion industry. The awards are sponsored by Swarovski Middle East and endorsed by the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and the Family Development Foundation.

"We were overwhelmed with the response from women in the UAE who wish to enter the design competition," said Daphne Cota, Exhibitions Manager for The Bride Show. "This is the inaugural year of the Swarovski Abaya Design Awards and we are all very excited to see what the entrants will create."

Those who attended the seminar had the opportunity to speak to IIR Middle East, organisers of The Bride Show Abu Dhabi, as well as Judith Duriez from Arabesque Sheilas and Abayas, and Bansri Gagwani, Senior Creative Service Centre Designer from Swarovski to discuss ideas for their own creations.

The final designs will be presented on the catwalk by professional models on the last day of The Bride Show Abu Dhabi, which takes place from February 5 to 8, 2008 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Sixteen fashion shows will be hosted over the 4-day event.

Entry to the competition is still open. Any aspiring fashion designer who wishes to take part can download the application form from the official website www.thebrideshow.com or pick up an application form from Abu Dhabi Ladies Club. The deadline for submission is Sunday December 16, 2007.
