Sabrina Venus began her first day at work yesterday in the gift shop on the 124th storey of the Burj Dubai.

‘At the Top’ sells trinkets for those wishing to remember their trip to the world’s highest observation deck, situated two-thirds of the way up the 800-metre-plus building.

The 24-year-old moved to Dubai two months ago from the Philippines, where she graduated from university with a degree in industrial engineering.

“I think Dubai offers a great opportunity for someone who aspires to have a bright future,” she said.

Sabrina admits she has a slight fear of heights, although this hasn’t blunted her enthusiasm for her new role as a member of the sales team.

“I’m a bit nervous,” she said, “but I’m more excited to be working here. It’s a great privilege. The Burj Dubai can help Dubai to stand out.”
