Bollywood star Salman Khan is back as the host of the 19th season of the popular Indian reality show, Bigg Boss. Fans are eagerly awaiting this season's premiere, which is all set to be aired on August 24 on the Indian channel Colors, and the OTT platform JioHotstar. The excitement for new drama, fights and tasks is high among the fans of the reality show.

This year's theme

This season brings a major shift in the format. Titled 'Gharwalon ki Sarkaar!', the show takes a more democratic approach and will no longer be controlled by a single person. As per a press release, "For the first time, power won't rest with one; the house will run on everyone's say. This change will make way for the democracy of drama, alliances, and fiery confrontations."

The usual format of the reality show has 10-15 contestants locked up in a house without any contact with the outside world for a duration of 3-4 months. The house rules are set by 'Bigg Boss', an invisible entity who only delivers instructions verbally.

Who are the contestants?

While the confirmed contestants for this season will be revealed during the grand premiere on August 24, several Indian media reports have put out names of probable participants.

Names that have been doing the rounds include actor Gaurav Khanna, who recently won Celebrity MasterChef, 21-year-old actor Ashnoor Kaur, who began her career as a child artist, as well as actor Abhishek Bajaj.

Influencer duo Awez Darbar and Nagma Mirajkar are said to be joining the Bigg Boss 19 squad this year. Actress Shehnaaz Gill's brother Shehbaz Badesha is also reportedly entering the house this season. Shehnaaz herself was a contestant on the hugely popular 13th season of the show.

TV actress Hunar Hale and Gangs Of Wasseypur writer-actor Zeishan Quadri have also been approached for Bigg Boss 19, according to reports.

The Bigg Boss 19 house

Each year, the house's design changes. The show's makers have unveiled the photos of the house this year, in keeping with the theme. Conceptualised by art director Omung Kumar with production designer Vanita Garud, the house is more than just a backdrop; it sets the stage for drama, conflict, and alliances, all under the ever-watchful eye of Bigg Boss.

For Season 19, the design draws from the spirit of camping in the wild, which invokes the raw simplicity of a cabin in the woods while providing a natural space for discussions among the housemates.

The entry in the living room of Bigg Boss is marked with a W-shaped wooden pillar, giving an essence of a natural landscape for the participating contestants of the show.

The wall drawings of deer and lion in the living room appear to be a symbolic representation of the daily fights that typically occur in that area. Salman Khan's 'Weekend Ka War' also takes place in the living room where the hosts interact with the housemates through a television.

Outdoors, wigwam seating recreates the feeling of a community circle. And through ever-watchful eyes carved into its design, the house reminds contestants that accountability is constant.

The Assembly Room serves as the DNA of the Bigg Boss house this year. In line with the season's theme, Gharwalon ki Sarkaar, this space becomes the central hub for debates, discussions, and decision-making.

Accessible only at certain times, it is designed as a crucible of power where contestants will be challenged to confront opposing views, negotiate authority, and prove their ability to lead or stand their ground.

The garden area features a roaring lion on the roof, symbolising power, as many home tasks are carried out outside the living room.

In the voting room, the true faces of the contestants are unveiled as they face dilemmas between friendship and personal needs. Many new strategies are also taking root in the voting areas.

The secret room features wallpaper with eyes, symbolising its true essence, where contestants often watch their mates' activities on a television.
