A Moradabad court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel in connection with a cheque bounce case linked to a 2017 event. The warrant was reportedly issued after the actress failed to appear before the court despite multiple summons.
Following the development, Ameesha has taken to social media to present her side of the story and deny the allegations.
Ameesha Patel’s statement on the allegations
Addressing the controversy, Ameesha shared a detailed note on Instagram, asserting that the matter is old and had already been settled years ago.
In her statement, she clarified that event organiser Pawan Verma had signed a settlement deed and received the full agreed amount of Rs 14.5 lakh. She further alleged that despite the settlement, fresh proceedings have been initiated with what she described as “false allegations.”

Ameesha wrote that her legal team is initiating appropriate criminal proceedings for cheating against the complainant to “expose his lies.” She also stated that she prefers to focus on her professional commitments rather than engage in what she termed a public spectacle.
What is the 2017 cheque bounce dispute about?
According to Indian media reports, the dispute dates back to an event scheduled on November 16, 2017. Event organiser Pawan Verma alleged that Ameesha Patel was contracted to perform at a wedding function, an advance payment of Rs 14.5 lakh was made to the actress, and accommodation arrangements were made at a hotel. But Ameesha allegedly did not travel to the city on the scheduled date. The organiser added that Rs 10 lakh was refunded in cash, however, a cheque issued for the remaining Rs 4.5 lakh allegedly bounced. Following the alleged cheque bounce, the organiser initiated legal action against the actress.
After the complaint was filed, the Moradabad court reportedly issued multiple summons to Ameesha Patel. However, when she failed to appear before the court on several occasions, the court proceeded to issue a non-bailable warrant.
A non-bailable warrant allows authorities to arrest the accused and present them before the court without granting immediate bail.
Ameesha’s counsel has strongly contested the allegations, maintaining that the entire amount of Rs 14.5 lakh was paid. A formal settlement deed was signed by the complainant, and the case had already been resolved years ago. Her legal team has stated that they will take appropriate legal measures to contest the complaint and challenge what they describe as an attempt to reopen a closed matter despite the agreed settlement.
