In a simulated exercise on Monday, the police carried out a drill to test the efficacy of drones in such real-life scenarios.

A special police team tested new models across different scenarios, including ‘foiling’ a vehicle robbery attempt in an industrial area; ‘searching’ for a car stuck in a sandy area; and finally ‘rescuing’ a drowning person off a beach.

The last exercise aimed at testing the response time of drones in searching for the drowning person. The drones track and inform the nearest patrol.

The drill was held at the special tasks department in Al Zahia.

Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said the use of drones in police security and safety will improve operational effectiveness, efficiency and productivity.

“The use of the drones and smart technologies improve the well-being of our society and operational effectiveness in maintaining overall public safety,” he said.

He said the Sharjah Police are keen on using resources and latest technologies to battle crime and in accidents and rescue missions.
