UAE: 5,400 motorists fined over 'covered' number plates

The Abu Dhabi Police fined 5,380 motorists last year for failing to keep their vehicles' number plates visible. The police have warned motorists that they must ensure their plates are visible.

While transporting items, motorists should ensure that their number plates are not partly or wholly getting covered.
The fine for the offence is Dh400, according to a report in Emarat Al Youm.
The police have in the past arrested motorists who concealed their number plates deliberately to avoid getting detected by radars. In one instance, a video of a Gulf national using a device to cover up his number plates had gone viral on social media. He was arrested later.
As per fresh traffic rules issued in Abu Dhabi recently, driving a vehicle without a valid number plate or deliberately tampering with it is punishable with instant vehicle seizure. The motorist will need to pay Dh50,000 to get it released.
