Palestinian national, Nada Anan, is hoping to bring the stories of her homeland and its people to the international platform as she starts out on a Bachelor of Communications in Journalism programme with a full one-year scholarship, awarded by Canadian University Dubai (CUD).
Nada and fellow communications student Marwa Jumah are recipients of the 4th annual Canada Day Scholarships, awarded by CUD in coordination with the Canadian Embassy and the Consulate General in Dubai.
The pair will embark on an international education experience, as they take up the unique opportunity to transfer their credits to one of CUD's partner institutions and complete their higher education in Canada.
With a passion for storytelling and an urge to share her experiences, Nada said: "Growing up in a conflict zone has had a powerful effect on my ambitions. My hope is that one day I will be able to tell the stories of the Palestinian people all around the world, and getting a top-class international education will be the first step to achieving this goal.
"I am honoured to receive this scholarship and grateful for the welcome I have received at CUD. The university already feels like home and ultimately I'm looking forward to making a home in Canada in the future."
Fellow scholarship awardee Marwa is excited about expressing her creativity through a major in advertising. She said: "I love being imaginative and inventive, and CUD was always my first choice to study advertising because I knew that the Canadian perspectives of learning would promote that freedom of expression.
"I have always wanted to study in Canada and this scholarship will give me the opportunity to start my university journey and benefit from a strong curriculum in the UAE before I make the transition to study overseas."
Established in 2013 to celebrate the University's bonds with Canada, the Canada Day Scholarships provide recipients with the opportunity to embark on an accredited degree programme at CUD, which bases its programmes on Canadian curriculum and education principles.
