A senior official from the college confirmed the development, saying the planned campus would provide seats for 2,500 students, following regulatory approvals.

In an interview with Khaleej Times, Brendan Wignall, headmaster of the college, said: “Ellesmere has a legacy and tradition of success and we will build on that. It is an institution known for providing individual attention and top quality education.”

Founded in 1884, Ellesmere College’s 114-acre campus in northern Shropshire provides boarding facilities.

“Everyone is valued equally,” Wignall added. “If a student is outstandingly good at something, that does not make (him/her) better than (others). We take academic achievement very seriously, as well as the arts, music, drama and sport. We work hard to maintain a balance.”

The school is awaiting approval from education regulator Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Construction is expected to begin later this year.

“At the UK campus, we already have a few students coming from the UAE. The campus in Dubai will be an opportunity for students here to benefit from a top UK institution. We will also provide an opportunity for students based here to transfer to the UK, if needed,” Wignall said. Details of the fee structure and location will be announced after the regulatory approvals. The school is expected to cater to a premium market and will follow the UK curriculum.
