Dubai - A video clip spread like a wildfire over the social media showing a high school student beating up a teacher has prompted the Dubai Education Zone (DEZ) to form a panel in order to investigate the incident, Arabic daily Al Bayan reported on Tuesday.
The education zone said the school principal will be summoned to be questioned why he did not report the incident at the education zone, and why students were allowed to carry mobile phones inside the school campus, and the school’s failure to commit to the Ministry of Education’s decision regarding this.
According to Al Bayan, the incident was reported on Monday when students at a high school shared a video showing a student physically assaulting a teacher inside a classroom at a school in Dubai. A board holding a number of an examination hall appeared in the video clip.
That footage sparked resentment among parents, who were inquiring details about the incident.
Some students claimed that the incident took place during the final year exam on Monday. However, the school management clarified that the incident happened three months ago.
Commenting on the board carrying the exam hall number, the school said the board that appeared in the footage goes back to the first trimester exams during which a scuffle ensued between a teacher of English subject and a student.
The school confirmed that the student’s code of discipline had been enforced upon the errant student as he was suspended from attending the school for a week, while the teacher involved in the incident was handed a warning notice. – news@khaleejtimes.com
