The creative space was part of the collaborative efforts between HCT and twofour54 to boost interest in the flourishing local media industry among students. The agreement for such alliance was signed by both parties last December. Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the HCT commended the establishment of the ‘innovative lab’ which he said will take students’ “learning to the highest level.”

The media space endeavours to provide a different approach to learning in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

“We are very proud for having the first lab here at HCT and I hope to have similar labs in all campuses of HCT. It is a great tool for our students to be working in a (place) equipped with the right (tool) and have the right ambience,” Dr Kamali told Khaleej Times.

As part of the agreement, twofour54 will be holding a monthly workshop by industry professionals who will share their knowledge, experiences and insights to the media students. twofour54 will also provide internships for HCT students in their facility at the Khalifa Park.

“Bridging the gap in a way of collaboration” is the way forward, according to Noura Al Kaabi, twofour54’s CEO Designate.

“One of our goals is to develop and Arabic media industry and the key to that development is engaging students in the field. So it’s time for us to be part of their practice while they are studying so that after they graduate, they have grasped some skills and can be a part of building the industry in future,” she stated.

“This is a new way of doing things instead of the traditional (route to learning),” said Dr Alan Jones, Chair of Applied Communications – Media Studies at ADMC. According to him, the new bachelor’s degree in Media Studies at ADMC was introduced this academic year. The four-year programme includes courses in radio and TV production, graphics design, interactive multi-media, photography, journalism and film-making.
