This year’s topic ‘Expo 2020: Education, ICT and the Job Market’ focuses on Dubai’s big win for the World Expo 2020 and how it will re-shape the education market and future employment trends in the UAE.
Keynote speakers, Phil Redhead, Senior Advisor for Digital Learning at GEMS Education and Dan Adkins, Academic Director at Murdoch University Dubai will highlight opportunities and developments that the education sector will experience. With its theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 will ensure that innovation will be the future foundation of education. In these crucial times, it is essential for academics to understand the need for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to effectively converge with the teaching methods.
According to an Oxford Economics report, the Dubai Expo 2020 will contribute Dh141 billion to Dubai’s GDP and create 277,000 jobs over the intervening six years. This will create many new job opportunities and place greater demands on student preparedness for new career paths. The upcoming workshop aims to communicate these challenges to academics, counsellors and advisors so that they can embrace this transformation in order to continue being proactive in their roles.
GEMS has seen its students accepted at 590 universities across 41 countries in the last three years and is offering a series of University and Employers’ Fairs during April to provide opportunities for students to engage with institutions globally.
