An online community
for UAE students

With more than 16,000 university students in Dubai itself, the opportunity to build a student-centric community could not escape the wits of Saurabh Chhabra who decided to setup emr8.com (pronounced as emirate). The website offers students with a round up of university activities and other interesting tidbits from college life.

“Students in the UAE are largely under-represented and that was the reason I decided to build an online community for them,” says Saurabh, a student of the American University in Dubai.

Building a team of students to work on the project, Saurabh started from the scratch to meet like-minded individuals from other universities. Soon he was working with a large group of writers, programmers and designers, all students of universities in the UAE.

“In today’s world, having a mere degree does not guarantee a job. At the university level, networking is really important and knowing the right people can help a lot.”

Working on the success of his online project in the UAE, Saurabh decided to set up Qtr8.com for students in Qatar.

“Online presence has helped me spread my work and meet interesting people in different countries. Being a student, it would’ve been hard for me to get in touch with other people if it wasn’t for a website like Twitter, which made interaction between two strangers so easy,” adds Saurabh.
